Cheltenham Exhibition 22nd February to 28th February 2024
Sixteen Gallery
Joint Exhibition with Lynne Littler from Inspired Gallery
For this collection of work, I bring together some old work and Brand New but still focusing on contrasts, textures, shape and colours. For my new work I have been inspired by the shapes and lines of the everchanging landscapes around my home in Monmouthshire. Looking into the distant hills and picking out organic tree shapes which juxtaposition to create patterns and rhythms. Adhering to the ‘rules’ of aesthetics such as the rule of thirds and aerial perspective. Larger marks and shapes in the foreground create depth and lead the eye into the painting just like Lynne’s intricate and express use of line.
But mostly it’s the colour I love the interplay between contrasting colours the way they bounce off each other. The Cezanne and Derain used their colours to create an explosion in the eye. Other Inspirations are Rothko, Mary Lloyd Jones and Klimt’s tree paintings to name just a few.
