Studio
It all started when…
A couple of months ago the studio at Craft Renaissance became available- amazing location great light and such a lovely space to work I jumped at the chance. Since then my work has gone from strength to strength. The studio is open to the public whenever I am there and I encourage people to wander in and chat. It has been valuable gaining the opinions on the work and informing my work in progress.
I am proud of the journey I have taken to get to this point. The studio is the culminating of my journey, and the things in the studio remind me of that journey.
The lace bobbin started this journey as it allowed me to go to art school. my mum taught me how to make lace and other crafts, my dad taught me to use the lathe so on my interview to Southport college of art the tutors ask me 3 times if I designed it and after the 3rd time I repeated ''oh yes I designed it" the response great your in! but practice drawing!
The other objects like my dad's whiskey jug and his ruler remind me of him. He made an easel for my mum, which I use now. She won a scholarship to art school, which she didn't take up, and I feel I am fulfilling her dream. and my Father in law made me the box out of matchsticks, which has Scarisbrick, my maiden name, and my date of birth, among other things. This holds my paint.
It's coming up to the anniversary of my dad's passing (on my birthday). I wish he could see my studio and what I have achieved all from a small lace bobbin
